The gnome, which originated in 19th century Germany, has long been a popular garden accessory. They are often the target of pranks, known as gnoming, where people return garden gnomes “to the wild”. The gnome is depicted with the standard pointy hat, beard, belt, pointy shoes but has a unique stick cane in his hand.
